Spending $100,000 on renovations does not automatically increase a home’s market value by $100,000. In some cases, smaller strategic updates may provide a better return than a complete remodel.

If the problem is the home’s appearance, renovating may be the right choice. If it involves the property’s size, location, or long-term suitability, selling and purchasing another home may make better financial sense.

Know the Complete Cost

A contractor’s estimate is only part of the expense. Homeowners should also consider permits, design fees, delays, temporary storage, and unexpected repairs.

In Florida, improvements involving roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, windows, or additions may also affect insurance coverage and property taxes. All work should be properly permitted and documented for a future sale.
